My question is whether I should be worried and change the Orings and base washers?

What is the normal oil consumption of a healthy TD5 That has had 5KK oil changes since new at 137KK with known good Orings?

To me the oil smells a little of diesel, but coming from a petrol background I do not know if they all smell like that, or mine is busy replacing the oil with diesel.

The rate of dilution is way in excess of consumption IME, Like Don says. The seals if they are leaking would spell 1/2 to 1 inch above by 2000km...If the diesel smell is worrying you, open the filler cap after a hot run and take a whiff of the fumes it will be more obvious with heat.

So its fair to say that a 5mm increase in under 1,000 klm is a sign of injector seals?
I was told by the mechanic that sold me mine that all TD5's gain oil & to swap it out @ 5,000 klm intervals ( to prevent a run away I assume)
Sorry to HiJack but its on topic.

Could a combination of worn rings and dodgy injector seals result in oil dilution? I'm also new to Diesels.

    I'm starting to get worried!

If nobody else's TD5 is using oil, should I be worried that mine has used 1.5l in the past 10K? Its definitely not leaking any oil externally, and I can't see any blue smoke out the pipe.

You're kidding right??? No way is that true.

I am never amazed anymore at the rubbish people come out with when trying to sell a vehicle

If you could remove all of that black crap from your oil when you drain it your oil content would be less than what you put in.
Oil is burnt in the normal process of combustion as mist passed from the sump/crankcase evaporates into the PCV system and vented back to the combustion side. Oil is sprayed up into the underneath of the piston crown to aid in cooling, some of this spray is carried to the PCV system, oil is caught on the bore surfaces and is burnt or vapourised and again carried out via the PCV system. some oil leaks onto the valve stem heads. through the valve guides (if it didn'y your valve guides/stems wouldn't last the day) and out through the exhaust.
So if your dipstick shows full or higher it is because lost oil (natural process) is being replaced by contaminants (soot/carbon) or Fuel.
Oil consumption (to a degree) is part of the process, it is designed to pick up crap and deposit it into the filters, what doesn't get caught by the filter/s is that black stuff in your oil and it takes up room, Regards Frank.
I know what you are saying is the norm., but my TD5 with 358,000 kms, between oil changes, the level neither goes up, or down. And, I am not concerned. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

I wouldn't be concerned either, just pointing out that it is normal for your engine to use oil and have that lost oil replaced by contaminants. Whether the oil drops/ rises or stays the same, as long as it is minimal it's OK, it's when oil rises quickly or a lot is when you should be concerned, Regards Frank.

    Thanks everyone.
I can now spend the day installing electrics for my fridge etc, rather than doing the injectors! LOL
BUT I cannot ignore that damn leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator much longer.

212,000kms and oil level does not change between ~10k oil changes. Takes around 7,000kms before it starts to turn black too.

300Ks, on my TD5 and again the oil level barely changes between oil changes - every 10,000ks. I often wonder why I check the level between changes.
