Head gasket
Does the head gasket for a 2 1/4 Diesel work on a 2 1/4 Petrol.I am asking because I needed a new one for my series 3 and this is recommended by my parts supplier.I have fitted it no dramas probably running a bit hotter than I would like but this may be the radiator which is being cleaned at the moment, also has a new water pump, thermostat etc.It is being restored at the moment and has not run for 6 or more years.
Cheers Will

Head Gasket
Hi, I can see from my parts list that there are different part numbers for petrol and diesel, also there are are both composite and copper gaskets listed, apart from thickness, I can't see why you couldn't use the diesel gasket, I would have thought that it would be stronger. The one thing that I am sure of is that you must use a composite gasket on a petrol 5 main bearing engine, this is stated in that engine supplement in the 'Brooklands' manual, the copper one doesn't last and you can damage the head, ask me how I know!!
Best I can do, hope it helps,
Jack
