What is the best way to check the Harmonic balancer on a TD5?

    Gday all.
Upon noticing all the H/B failures of late, (especially a 03 Disco) I am wondering what is the best way to inspect these little beasties? I am assuming remove the viscous fan and underbelly protection?. And what to look for (cracks in the rubber ect). I'm sure a few fellow TD5 owners will be interested in this. Ps: my Disco has 83294k's and is an 04.
    Regards

I had a look the other day with the fan out, with a mirror/light . My borescope was useless.

I couldn't see much so I think you would have to remove the 3 bolts that hold the outer pulley part on and remove it, and then you could see cracks or separation in the rubber bond.

And if you do as I did, I then put the 3 bolts and the outer section away somewhere safe well away from the radiator and everything else in the engine bay.

Go to www.discovery2.co.uk click on " faults & fixes " , select TD5 crankshaft pully, an excellent tutorial, & even a short video. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
