    Earth Issue for Driving Lights

I fitted a set of driving lights to my Puma Defender a couple of weeks ago using a Lightforce install kit and relay.

Everything worked very well until a couple of days ago. The lights stopped working.
After a poke around with a meter, I discovered that the screw I used in the engine bay to connect the lights and relay earth to no longer had continuity with the negative terminal of the battery. Everything else was as it should be.

I have never experienced anything like this before. Is this something that happens with aluminium panels??

Any thoughts out there? This is my first Land Rover.

Let me guess... ali panel & a steel screw... then, you run electricity thru it...

Welcome to the art of electrolysis...

Essentially, the screw has insulated itself, and the associated connection, from the ali panel.

Best bet is to run a cable directly back to the negative terminal on the battery.

Have a look on the bulkhead behind the engine, there will probably be some pre-existing points that are used as earths. That's where I earthed mine
