how often do you check your engine oil

Weekly, I drive a series 3 daily:D spare tyre is in the back;)

Before and after trips on the Series 1 and 101:)

Red 130, only occasionally on long trips. Spare tyres are under the tray;)

So I guess you are saying you don't use oil between changes, as we don't:)

Rather than check the oil, I just top it up each week, takes about a 1.5 l per 500 k's sometimes a bit more but if I forget the lifters soon let me know :eek:

I normally check every 2nd week.:)
By the 5000 mark its normally on the low point on the dipstick,time to do a change. :)

Have an oil leak from the front bolt on the rocker cover,its tight and newish bolt,so I don't know why its still leaking.
I clean it when I do the oil change and after I have parked it under the carport,the next morning there's oil in the groove again.:censored:

Anyone got any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fairly frequently after I have purchased a vehicle and then depending on usage. ATM all the fleet are checked every 4-8 weeks or before a major trip. none are using any significant amount of oil.

Usually only check it once between services.

Every time I drive the Series.
With the County before any trip that'll need more than a tank of fuel, and most weekends if I have driven it during the week. If I haven't driven it during the week I just check the road ;)

Every Friday after a weeks driving, every Monday , because we are slowly ticking off the trips in the book, " Dirty weekends in S.E. Qld." Given that our cars never leak or burn oil, why would we need to check???

Many years ago when RRCs were still new, I was on a Range Rover Club of NSW trip .
Going up Mt Pinnibar one of the convoy, a prominent Sydney lawyer came on the CB and said that he had a red light on the dash coming on during the steep bits. I told him to stop immediately on the next drainage hump.
I asked when he had last checked the oil.
"Checked the oil? its a new car , why should I check the oil?" I have never had to check the oil on any of my other ( Japanese) cars."

Well it was below the lower mark if on the dipstick at all , at about 6000Ks AFAIR and luckily we morons who take a litre of oil with us were able to roust enough up to get the oil onto the dipstick.
It does pay to check the oil.

Just a point of note.
A 300tdi can be down on oil volume about 4L before oil pressure drops below 10psi
Obviously not recommended but just one of those facts you come across limping a crook engine for far too many km!

And to answer:

Perhaps a new rocker cover gasket & bolt seals are in order. The bolt seals do harden and perish with age.
Your leak is a representative of chamber blow by... if you have excessive crank case pressure then consider valve stem seals or piston rings.

Perhaps its just a crook gasket/bolt seal or perhaps the leak is telling you something else!
