    Gotta love Dads .

My waterpump died the night before we flew to Bali but no probs i'll just order one and have it ready to fit when i get home.
But good old Dad gets one and is fitting it right now except for a few problems, he didnt get the P gasket and the lowest long bolt is stuck - i didnt want him to do it as i know whats involved.
But given he has over 50 years of engineering and mechanical experience i know he do it right now i that he knows about the P gasket and new bolts.

Yep, gotta love them! Trouble is I'm living here and he's in the UK. That's the hardest bit about migration!!! Mine did say "No" though when the third overdrive disintegrated on the 6 litre Diesel 101 when I rang him asking for a tow back to the farm. I was over 100kms from home and he had warned me several times!!!

So got home this morning and luckily (or not ) Dad had only removed the old pump so the hard work is done, now he didnt get a P gasket so am i asking for trouble by not replacing it since it hasnt leaked before ?
My problem now is that being a long weekend i cant get a gasket till Tuesday but i need the car for work . I could always just assemble it and then order a pair of new gaskets just in case ?

Sorry to too off topic, but you ran a plastercine overdrive with that engine up front?? no wonder you needed a tow, they have enough trouble surviving behind a stock 3.5...

By P gasket I assume that you are talking a Tdi? If so a gasket is not needed.

I did mine about four years ago and just used silicone, plain old every day plumbers roof and gutter. Has not leaked a drop since.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I do have thick gasket paper but they are metal so prefer to replace with the same, i'll re-assemble as is and at worst might have to replace it at some stage.

Thanks Dave, decided not to replace since it hasnt leaked and i didnt remove the wp mounting bracket. and after 2 1/2 weeks of tropical weather i'm not that keen to spend any more time outside on the car than is required.
Also will be changing timing belt when weather improves so as long as it lasts til then i'll be happy.
