I get similar results from my 95 disco 300tdi also my amp meter goes to 30+ amps for about 5 min after starting then drops to almost 0 after about 20min of driving(shows battery charge only not total alt output) .I will keep watching to see how you go as I have another alternator I am getting rebuilt might get it done sooner if needs be.

Hey Kelvin, I have a perfectly good working alternator off my 95 Defender you can have if your willing to help with postage.
It will just need you to put the pulley on from yours, and good to go.
I put new bearings in it and a new regulator a couple years back so it should be good for many years yet.
    Let me know...

Great, let us know how you go Kelvin.

I can't see it being anytime soon, but when I eventually get around to checking the diodes in mine, I'll report back as well.

replaced my alernator on the weekend........only to find my multi meter has died

will check output tonight if i have time

i will be commuting on the pushie for the rest of the week so i might throw the charger onto the battery as well

when i spin the old alternator there is an ever so slight ticking noise, i didn't check the new one prior to fitting....is this normal

i also notice some whitish metal build up in the inside, i poked at it and it fell off..now the old alternator is making lots of noises and locks up
