    PLEASE HELP ARB air locker

    HI all,

I am trying to fit an ARB air locker RD 03 from a 70's era range rover classic into a 87 range rover classic all seem to be the same except for the carrier bearing adjusters (used to set the backlash). The ones from the old model diff seem to be 1 to 2mm larger in diameter than the later model. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone encountered this before and if I am correct can I get replacement items in the correct size?

I don't follow your problem here. You're fitting a "new" old centre to your 87 housing using the 87 crown wheel but the bearings already fitted to the centre? If the bearings fit within the carrier bearing caps, can you not fit the diff centre into the housing, fit caps and adjust backlash? More info required (or I need more coffee).

Fitting a old centre to my 87 housing with 87 crown wheel and pinion replaced the bearings and it all sits in the housing fine but the carrier bearing adjusting cap the one on the air fitting side is a different diameter (slightly larger ). Not sure if I am using the right name for it but it is the threaded cap that is used to set the backlash

Have you checked that the early diff is 3.54, if its been modded with 4.7 or even 4.1 cw&p the carrier offset is different and I dont think it will fit (been a while) also there was a change when going from lockwire & lever adjuster locking to rollpin locking.

Quite simple really a quick google search reveals this

Metric Type Carrier. 1987> Bearing Dia will be 73.5 mm, RTC 3095
Imperial Type Carrier 1987< Bearing Dia will be 76.10 mm RTC2726
Imperial Type Carrier 1976 < These older diffs used . 41045
    Imperial Type to Metric conversion.
You can convert your old Imperial diff casing to metric by fitting a adapter ring over the metric bearing.
Bearings Adapters £12.50 each. You will require 2 off per carrier.

    As above, ^^

There are early and late carriers.

Might be easier to swap the entire earlier diff centre, complete with locker, into the axle?
