    Puma P1103 error code

Howdy, error code P1103 popped up today - my mechanic is away so has anyone had experience with this? A search on other forums came up with a MAF error and another suggested an EGR issue..... Ideas? thanks in advance

    Marty,

From P1103 | Diesel performance tuning and economy remap chip tuning for Landrover Defender Discovery TD5 Puma TDV6 TDV8 MAF in range but higher than expected

More info here: Defender2 - View topic - P1103 MAF in range but higher than expected - translation?

I recommend you give it a good clean: unplug, soak in carb cleaner, air dry and refit.

I had it come up a few times and I reset the error. When it went in for the 30K service I told the dealer and they replaced the EGR valve under warranty as they told me that was causing the error.

The only issue it seemed to cause was using more fuel than normal and the noise at shutdown got quieter (until it was replaced).

Since replacing the EGR valve, the error hasn't re-appeared (about 14000Km and about 10 months ago).

P.S I has a spilt inter-cooler hose at Easter, you know if that happens as you lose power ( think like driving a series vehicle - I did like my series Land Rovers so this is not picking on them) and it makes a horrible rushing noise as the rev's go up.

Hi Richard, how did you re-set the code? I tried with my Scangauge 2 and got "no response" then tried with my Nanocom Evo and got something like 'error communicating with the ecu'? Seems strange as the Nanocom could communicate to read the code but not to re-set it? After unplugging the Nanocom (put it in standby, turned off ignition and removed the key, waited 1 min then unplugged the Nanocom) now my interior lights wont turn on when I open the door - any of the doors. Still go on with the manual interior switch...... very strange

Hi and thanks to those who have responded. I have cleaned the MAF sensor and then connected my Nanocom to reset the codes and not only will it not reset the codes I have now picked up some new ones: P0404 EGR cont range performance actuator stuck open; P1103 is still there; P0234 turbo a over boost condition; P1935 brake switch sensor signal circuit short to ground or open. The car still starts and drives OK, but I have only gone down the track and back, no long drive. I am now hoping it wont go into limp home mode when I have to drive 120km round trip on Thursday - anyone know whats going on? My landy mechanic isn't answering his phone either........

    Hi Marty,

I have an Ultraguage and just went into the alarms menu and it let me clear it, and it didn't come back for a month or so.

It sounds like you may have a bigger problem maybe with the ECU and would need someone who knows what they are doing to look at it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks Richard, I tried again with my scangauge with engine off and it cleared the codes and they have not come back - yet! Dont know why those other codes came up - only on the Nanocom. So - cleaned the MAF have now cleared the code and the car is driving great and the MIL light is off ...... waiting on Peter Brown to get back from the UK to check it over but he assured me by text message that its nothing to worry about until he gets back.

    Hi Marty,

Thats good, I did clear mine with the engine running so it might just be the unit. I didn't see any effect of resetting it (except for higher fuel consuption until the EGR valve was replaced under warranty).

Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Hi marty 110.
The fault codes you get are standard puma faults that occur on most pumas.so dont panic.
P0404 EGR stuck open; P0234 turbo a over boost condition; P1935 brake switch sensor signal circuit short to ground or open.
Vehicle should continue to operate with them but im suprised nanocom wont clear them.
Whats the fuel like there in Aus?I get them here in the UAE because the diesel is crap and results in sulphur building up in the egr valve actuators and turbo. In addition I get the injector balance fault codes.

    Hope you get sorted.
