For what it's worth I have have found LR to be generally incompetent at best and disingenuous to the point of being deliberately misleading at worst.

The 2.2 Pumas are renowned for blowing hoses - largely due to bad install/unperformed warranty checks.

Get a stat dec from your mechanic and make it LR Australia's problem i.e. escalate. Be agreeable but firm, don't give an inch and don't spend a dollar of your own coin.

I have had a similar experience with a non-Land Rover dealer and dishonouring a warranty.

Put your complaints in writing outlining clearly what the warranty says and how you have complied with it. Be quite clear about the next step you will take and also make it clear, that you know your legal rights and the dealer's legal obligation. Keep all correspondence in case you need it later; it is also a good idea to keep a diary of what they said to you as well.

When I had made it clear to my dealer that I knew about engines and that I understood the warranty they had sold me, the wind went out of their sails and they refunded me the money I had paid, without the recourse to legal action, or Departmental action.

Good luck; you will win in this situation,

    Cheers Charlie

Hah, yep that's what I thought after seeing it in the service book!

but anyway, MR have come to the party and quoted me $2400 for the work, $1200 in parts, which includes all pipes, joints, coolant filler bottle, new CORRECT coolant etc, there's actually a hell of a lot when you start to add it up.

They are going to look at the radiator to be sure but reckon that will need changing so have included it in the price ($550) and a further $660 for labour.

I'm just going to pay it and have it done, yes I know that's the lazy mans option and should fight this but I neither have the time nor the energy to put into this battle, I just know that a certain Landrover dealer will never get my recommendation or business again - Especially knowing they're nearly double the price of MR to do the same work...

You can still follow it up later with LR.

I know Defender (Tdi era) owners who had to get gearbox rebuilds out of warranty due to known faults. They wrote letters to LR and were refunded 50% of the costs of the rebuild - even though the work was done by a non-dealer.

Not wanting to defend that dealer, but I have bought two Disco's through them and always had a fault fixed sometimes when I didn't know about it (at service time). Twice when the warranty was out of date.

Maybe, as suggested above, something to do with only their stamps in the book.

    Cheers, Jerry

I had the worse workmanship i have EVER seen done on a vehicle at that place about 10yrs ago, under warranty.

Started using the place at Redcliffe after that episode,a third of the price and three times as good.

    Hi Guys

Please remember that the forum does have a no naming and shaming policy so please keep your dealer references generic.

I understand people may want to warn others but if people really want to know who your talking about they need to discuss this with you privately.

    thanks

    Problem found

So, a couple of months later I have an answer to how this seems to have happened.

I've been down in Hobart for a couple of months training as am heading down to Antarctica shortly, I left the truck with MR for that time to inspect and fix whilst also keeping the parts for inspection purposes.

"In your case, once stripped, we found a faultwith fuel cooler, which we suspect is the cause of the breakdown of coolingsystem hoses and seals etc from diesel fuel contamination in system hence contamination of the water pump and heatertap"

I have fired off the email to Landrover customer care stating I intend to recover all monies as obviously a faulty fuel cooler is not my doing and should be covered under their warranty.

I'll let you know how I get on but am at least comfortable now that I have not caused the problem in any way, I now have proof and a report that confirms this and will hopefully get the money back I've had to spend confirming this..

Honestly, they could have inspected slightly better and it would have saved all of this...
