I've seen this Sals running too hot for 90 weight oil statement before and it never made sense to me.
There are millions of Dana 60s driving around and they all are under pickups with at least double the horsepower of any "Defender" ever built. As far as I can tell nobody has ever complained about them running hot. I've asked a few dana expert and they have never heard of it.
So here is a single data point. I installed a new temperature indicating strip before a 3000 km trip. Mostly highway at 100 to 120 km/h over many long mountain passes (around 25000 m of elevation gain). Ambient temps from 25 to 35 C.
110, 3200 kg, 4BD1 with turbo.
Highest measured temperature between 77 and 82 C. The front axle did not set off the 77 C indicator.
Your mileage may vary, but I'm not really sure why.
