    I give up...what is this?

Attached to the rear bumper bar of my spare Disco 1 is the following (hopefully there are some photos to view)

I know how it works but not what I'd does. There seems to be no way to attach anything to it. Is there something missing? I can't see any wear marks where something may have been attached to it. There is obviously a post on the rear bumper to which this attaches which allows the arm to swingaway.

Anyone help me out as regards its purpose?

I can see on the preview there is only 1 photo. How do I put multiple piccies up? I upload one and if I upload another the first one disappears.

its the pivot arm for the rear bumper.

it either had a bike carrier, jerry carrier or more frequently a spare tyre bracket mounted to it.

It looks like the hydraulic step. On the back of my Disco 1 there is a step I can stand on to make it easier to climb into the back. It automatically rises once pressure is off it. I'll take some photos tomorrow in daylight.

Its definitely part of a swing away carrier minus the wheel/jerry mounting bracket, if the pic is rotated anti - clockwise 180 degree's you can tell how its meant to be fitted.
Latch on the right and bearing hub on the left, by that configuration i'd say it was a jerry can holder. It would be easy enough to get it operational again.

My guess is that it is an unfinished project. This would explain why there is no evidence of anything being attached.

It would also explain the rust, as it has never been painted.

    Definitely a swing away carrier.

It looks like part of a Kaymar carrier. The clamp at the end is identical to theirs.

Either a wheel carrier that's been cut down, hence no paint in the centre section or a jerry can carrier that's been modified.

    Here's a pic from a Kaymar on a Defender.
