Just changed the clutch on my Defender and replaced the throw-out fork, slipper pads and release bearing. Looking at the way it works it seems that the release bearing stays in permanent contact with the fingers on the pressure plate. There is nothing there to pull it clear when the clutch is released.
Am I correct about this? I always thought the release bearing sat clear of the pressure plate until the clutch was depressed.
Yes Arthur is right I replaces the clutch in the D1 when the motor was out for rebuild and within a few weeks the throwout race was noisy and made a funny noise at the bite point on depression of the clutch
Now its worse as its done near 30K so its coming back out the box that is and a replacement race and box with better syncros is going back in![]()
