    Torque values

    Hi all,

I have just replaced water pump and p gasket on my disco1 TDI. In retrospect I am not happy and I am going to start again before I put it all back together.
As a result can someone confirm the torque values of the following. I have read what I can but the values are spread around the forum and are often differing.

Water pump ...are all bolts torques the same or are the 3 long ones a little more due to metal P gasket (I read 24 and 30 nm?)

    Water pump pulley 3 bolts

    PAS pulley 3 bolts

Serpentine Belt tensioner pulley (nut on stud) I have read everything from 14 to 45 nm?

3 bolts holding aircon belt tensioner pulley

Any other relevant nuts and bolts I have forgotten.

    Many thanks

You should be able to find all the relevant torque values by looking at the Defender workshop manual. After all, it's the same engine.

all the pully bolts are 25nm same as the water pump bolts.

apply loctite 243 to all of the threads

apply loctite silver antiseize (51606 for the big tub and 37617 for the stick)to the shanks and the underside of the water pump bolts.

the tensioner mounting stud winds in at 15nm and then has the nut applied to 45nm (use the 243 on the threads and the silver on the shank)

the bolt on the pully on the tensioner from memory is 45nm.

Thanks Don, I do have the Discovery workshop manual .pdf but it differs in many respects to my engine. Having a quick look, the Defender version is more like it. One obvious example the Disco book makes no mention of the auxiliary mounting bracket and P gasket. Thermostat housing is different etc etc. perhaps I need a newer book but it seems to be the only one available.
    Cheers

I have them, but it covers from 95 up. There are obvious shortcomings when it comes to my 99 Disco, The ancillary bracket mentioned in previous post being one of them. I can find no mention of it in Disco manual, yet it is mentioned in Defender manual.
