Did you check the sediment catcher thingo at the back near the tank? Mine was considerably clogged when I checked. I figured it might be after I removed the drain plug and nothing came out![]()
Ive had my 130 defender 1995 since 2008, its been a good truck, always starting, pulls a trailer well, goes where ever i want her to.
about 2 weeks ago it started to loose a bit of power, then a few days later she would drive 100 metres then starve fuel, splutter then rev up and take off again, she would repeat the process as i drove down the road, so i thought it was the lift pump, did all the checks, replaced the fuel filter, undid the hose from pump to filter, manually pumped it, was good, replaced lift pump with a second hand one from Harry from the gold coast club, still having starving issues, Harry suggested take top hose off intercooler and fuel cap off, did that, drove up the road and back, still same problem.
I decided to replace the fuel line from tank to lift pump, lift pump to fuel filter, fuel filter to injector pump, so today i spent $60 on fuel hose and clamps and ran a new fuel line, got it all back together and went for a drive, started off the same, stalled in the street so i am guessing i didn't get all the air out of the line , carried on around the neighbourhood, she went pretty well, so hope i have solved the issue, will see tomorrow as go for a drive up the highway.

My 130 doesn't have a sediment filter at the back same as others, it is a direct fuel line from the tank pick up to the lift pump.
After put everything back together, i filled the tank up with diesel and drove it to work and around for a week or so until the problem started to happen again.
I parked up the truck on my ramp at home and pulled out the fuel sender/gauge from the tank and had another look at it.
I noticed a small crack where the pipe goes into the plastic had cracked and the steel pipe was not all the way into the plastic where it was supposed to be.
I wiggled the pipe and could see the plastic had definately cracked so that was the problem.
Photos are attached.
I glued the pipe back in with some araldite and will leave overnight then put back into the tank.
This part was an aftermarket item i installed about 3 years ago as the original had broken off where the fuel line attaches as it was brittle.
After i got the crack sorted out, i left the glue to set overnight and went to install the fuel sender, as i had replaced the old plastic pipe with a rubber fuel line i attached that then tightened up the hose clip, the barb broke off, B@#%!r what to do now.
I went to Flexible hose supplies in Ereton Drive, Labrador, Gold Coast, they had a pipe fitting to fit but need a glue that can handle plastic and fuel. anyone got any ideas?
some plastics can others not so much and some just dissolve

Thanks, i did a bit of research into glues, raldite, Locktite, etc. not really any available to do it without spending more than the part to replace. I went with replace the part.
Cheapest option.
The in-tank pumps often fail. Lots just bin them and install an external in-line Denso pump or similar - we had that on our old V8 defer.
