Pliable for application, and then paintable. These are supplied to and used by coach and boat builders.
We do not supply direct to the public , but have dealers around the country.
Thanks for going to the trouble. Can you take things apart later on with this stuff?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can. It may need cutting or maybe a wire brush to help. We use thinners for all our cleaning. It softens it up and makes it a lot easier to clean/remove.
I've only put up part of the brochure, and I cant remember if it had phone numbers on it. I can put up the rest if you want more info on other products.
Lets me know if you want/need contact numbers.

And whilst I think of it, Thanks Dave for letting me put this up for the guys.
Not sure if it will help anyone, but hopefully it will.

They look like urethane adhesives (similar to sikaflex). I reckon if I sealed a Citroen DS roof on with any of those.... Much like sikaflex, it would be almost impossible to remove in the future. There probably good for sticking in car windscreens though.

I'm after a non-hardening ribbon mastic ... that is *not* a glue myself

It took a few emails and three different people, but I just got a call from a Wurth salesman and the stuff will be on its way . . . when they get it from Melbourne in a week or two. Bloody WA; just about everything including babies are on backorder!

Meanwhile, my Woolies order arrived today. Perfick!

It took 15 days to get here, so less for most of you guys. I see it's still 3M stuff after all, with a slightly different part number.

According to Google, what you received (08768) appears to be for Marine applications, whilst the original part number you asked about (08578) is for Automotive applications.

Exactly how they differ? I dunno.

I glued on the roof of my RRC with Sikaflex227 and it improved the rigidity greatly . As I glued it "in Situ" all you would need is to run around it with a box cutter to remove it. If you placed it where the OEM cloth strip was . I reckon you could remove it with a wire saw after you took the bolts out.

IMHO you could substitute Sikaflex 227 for the mastic in lots of places.
They stick car bodies together with these products nowadays.

    Regards Philip A

Who knows, but I would consider old Landies and Rangies to be a marine application anyway!

Philip, I'm so glad you've solved so many of my Rangie questions ahead of time. Thanks for that, I hadn't thought of the rigidity and I'll probably do that for the roof. For the transmission tunnel, however, that would be very tricky to cut out later on.

Sikaflex #227 will substitute for mastic, provided you're aware of the application and removal process, as described by PhilipA.

Davo, the mastic you bought is 6mm diameter, the Wurth and 3M products are 10mm in diameter and both are black. Both are also supplied in either 1metre legnths or a full 15feet (4.67m) length in the case of the 3M product.

Perhaps the difference between the applications is the marine version may well be good for permanent below water line applications, the automotive version having better plasticiser/elastomer for the heat factor experienced in many automotive applications. I'm surmising.

    Cheers,
    Richard
