Auto Gearbox Question
Hi All,
My 300TDI disco 97 Auto first gear is starting to slip a bit not real bad but slowly getting worse.
Question is I also have a V8 3.9 1999 Disco Auto, gearbox is perfect feeling, can I swap them over as the V8 will never be used on the road and is only driven around the farm.
Are they the same box technically, just with different bell housing and sump pan looks different as well not as deep as the TDI one.
And if I can swap them are there any tricks to look out for, kick down switches, speedo, hoses?

the valving is different, the v8 shifts at much higher revs

Good call, so I'd have to swap valves over as well.

You will also need to swap the gearbox output shafts - which means a full pull down, as the V8 output is 50mm shorter. Need to swap the kickdown cam as well
Have fun
