V8 electronic dizzy (how fun they are)

Another brilliant effort by me,,, again...... Hosed the rig out of sand after getting back from double island point, thought "I wont grab the plastic bags I will just be really careful with the hose and not wet my dizzy, coil or that little box that sits between". Well not careful enough it seems now the rig won't start, I have power to coil, 2 slots on box but no spark

    few questions for the guru's

    • small box with 4 spade connectors on it in between dizzy and coil. What is it and what is its function
    • can this component be removed or bypassed and dizzy connected direct to coil that last one is rhetorical it was so close to starting but just wouldn't take that last kick to run on its own it would just give little splutters as starter was spinning it

Removing small electronic boxes is unlikely to make your engine run. Removing the dissy cap and drying out the moisture is likely a much better idea. DON'T use WD40, use a soft absorbent cotton rag and/or a hairdrier. While you're at it, polish the outside of the cap.

Lastly, diagnosis goes better with pictures, or descriptions a bit more involved than

ty for your response and your right better description would be called for if i could give one someone that owns a carby v8 with electronic dizzy will know exactly the part I am talking about it will stick out like a sore thumb to anyone that has worked on the electrics in an early V8 so I am sure with how it is discribed one of the gurus will know I am sure of that. As for drying said parts I didn't really think anyone would think I was dumb enough not too, so I say thanks for the vote of confidence bud lol..

That little box is the thing that switches the coil on and off to create the spark. It is driven by a signal from the dizzy via the sensor which reacts to those little ridges on thecentre shaft of the dizzy. Take it outand the car wont run.
The previous post mentioning drying everything out is on the money. The little box is solid state and all sealed, so apart from some water around the terminals, it shouldnt be affected.

Carby V8s don't have 4 legged boxes in them unless they've been modified. The '84 carby RRC had the first factory electronic ignition with a ginormous alloy box thing under the coil. So this "guru" says your system is not stock. Does the 4 legged thingie happen to be marked with the brand "Bosch"? Then it's a version of my ignition conversion.

In any case make sure all the spade lugs are clean and tight and its firmly earthed to its mount by tight mounting screws.

Oh and if that fails throw a bucket of hot soapy water at the electronics, they may need a wash.
