depends on which side of the argument you are on.

Assuming the delaying the initial flame front idea is correct.

I'm of the opinion that its bandaiding because if everything else is working right then the engine shouldnt need the 2SO in its fuel to run normally.

The noise is essentially the same as diesel knock from early injection...

in the old days when an engine was injecting early we sorted the pump timing.

    IHMO..

the engine is electronically managed and this should be something it should sort itself via basic anti knock sensing, The engine should be able to handle a wide range of qualities of fuel (but it cant because on the lower grade fuels it fails emission which is why as of EURO III the specification of the fuel was included in the emission control design compliance requirements)

The other thing that might be happening is the noise may be being cause by the rail pump not sealing up properly at lower speeds and the 2SO is just enough to up the surface tension of the fuel to deal with the problem.

    Is it good?

Short term, if you need to use it yes, it will help prevent increased wear on some components.

Long term, no, I have my suspensions that it will cause premature failure of some parts. Do I think that the cost/benefit ratio will be exceeded ? No but it may be a close run thing.

If anyone want any more information, especially from those using 2 stroke I would suggest a read of this.
