What is the name of this pulley?

Hey fellas, I've just bought myself a 1996 Disco 1 TDi and was wondering if some of you gurus could help a newby out.

I'm have no experience with cars and engines but i'm keen to learn =D

The last time the PO took her out one of the pulley bearings from the air con system seized up and he had to cut it off, luckily it didn't damage anything else.

I have a replacement air con belt but i've got no idea what the name of the pulley with the red arrow next to it in the pic is and i cant find it in the manual which makes it hard to buy a replacement one haha.

    Any ideas?

    Ive found the tutorial http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...or-pulley.html

which i figure will carry me through putting the belt back on =D

One last question, do i need to take the engine out to do this repair or can i do it in the car?

    Cheers
    Paul

that is the a/c idler pulley, bearings for both the idler and tensioner are 6203 part number, any engineering supplies will stock them. you will need to remove them from the vehicle, drill next to the circlip , hook it out, press the bearing out, new one in , refit circlip and all is well

Get a RAVE manual set from the Shop at the top of the page. It's got all the guff about Land Rovers of all sorts.

IIRC there are two other idler pulleys on the D1 system - I'd suggest replacing all three bearings while you're at it. And I'm pretty sure they're all the same size bearing.
