Fitting a radio in TD5 Discovery

Just acquired a TD5 and intend bringing across a UHF radio from previous vehicle.

Any suggestions as to the best place to install or are there any aftermarket consoles available

    Welcome to AULRO

Not sure about the defender's but I have a after market consoul in my Disco.
Fit's above the radio and can hold two comm unit's or what ever you wish it too. Great little unit.

Send a private message to Pirate, he has a defender with radio is fitted, I just cant remember where he mounted it.

Try Opposite Lock for a dash pod. I have one. Good unit and easy to fit.

I have a Defender TD5 so do not have to cope with the acres of plastic when mounting gear.

I have a remote head GME UHF unit. I have mounted the trancever body under the steering column (between ones legs 8O ) and the head unit just the left of the instrument cluster (the support bracket screws up underneath the dash return in front of the fresh air vent).

I am running a remote speaker to the top of the B pillar on the drivers side (ie pointin in ear so I can hear radio with the engine running!!!! )

Now if anyone has a good idea on where to mount the trancever of a HF unit I would like to hear. I am still install my Codan NGT.

    Good luck

    Hi Harryw,
you dont say Disco or defender?

I put mine on the back of the centre cubby box, small oval extension speaker on front of cubby box below arm rest, works fine,,
9db spring steel aeriel on bull bar right in navigators line of sight

At the same time had the guy put an AMFM aeriel on the drivers side of the bullbar.

The standard radio antenna placement on the early Disco's was not um, er, well thought out.
