Hi Ferno
Pregnant Hippo I always refered to it as a Stoned Crow but it sounds like Bushes, that is providing the spring "U" bolts are tight and the diff is not moving (broken centre pin) OR the steering relay is not exessivly worn or the relay to track rod arm is loose(tighten clampbolt 11/16 unf i think) you can check the shackles by placing a tyre lever between spring and hanger and leavering hard for verticle movement, the standard steel/rubber/steel bushes are about $6 each from british off road 6 bushes are the same size, the 2 in the chassis (upper, rear of front spring is different size always replace the shackle pins when doing bushes, mine in the lwb ex army 2a have lasted 12years (150,000 mls) and are just starting to clunk going across driveways 8O NOTE SERIES 2's HAVE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF THREAD AS THE INNER SHACKLE PLATE IS THREADED THEN HELD BY THE NUT  the bushes are a press fit but can be removed/fitted with the correct drifts, there is a reasonable garage /workshop in church st if my memory is correct they should be able to press out/in at a fair price, speak to Paxton at Brit Off Rd. in regards to threads, you will have to supply the chassis No.
regards Rocket
