I trialed Ford AU electric fans on my D1 Which I customized to fit exactly, eventually I took them off as it overheated in heavy going.
Now my brother has had some insane cars over the years, currently has a Suzuki Serra that is almost beyond description in what he has done to it, anyway he has put me onto a product called "water wetter" the hot car fraternity use it to help keep the engine cool what it does is act as an agent in the coolant to help the heat transfer from the metal to the coolant
So I have put the electric fan back on and poured it in the radiator will see how it goes
I've not long put the radiator, header tank, fans etc from my spare AU Falcon into my 3.5 V8, definitely running cooler now, the temp gauge barely moves about a quarter of it's total travel, and i mean barely.
How are you switching the fans?
What condition is your thermostat in?
Cooling system pressurising properly?
Flushed the radiator? Could be plugged
Thanks for posting that - I've got a BA and I was thinking those parts looked like they might fit, but hadn't heard of anyone actually using them.
For the OP, I had EL fans in my Rangie for a while and they worked well, as they have for other people. Your cooling system has to be in good nick otherwise, because these fans can mask a problem by running more often. The biggest problem with using these fans is having a good cowling, which is really important, and the switching set-up, so that they come on early enough to keep the engine cool, and not too late to try and cool down an engine that's already a bit hot.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
Aren't AU falcon thermo fans 2 speed?
Did you wire them for hi speed?
Direction of fans wiring polarity?
I ran AU fans on Old V8 falcons no problems keep temperature ever.
Regards
engine is a very fresh 4.6
brand new radiator, aluminum jobby
t/stat new with engine
pressurizes fine
tried in with the 3.9 in first with every thing old and exactly the same as with every thing new
The best electric fans in the world won't help an unrelated cooling problem. If falcoon fans won't keep it cool, I'd be looking hard at the rest of the system.
If your gauge never makes halfway, time for a new thermostat.
About 10 years ago I was convinced my diesel was heating, went thermo-electric fans and slightly better. Put a new thermostat in it and the gauge went hard right. Turns out I had a mismatch between sender and gauge. I was previously running really cold.![]()
Dave.
I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
1983 RR gone (wish I kept it)
1996 TDI ES.
2003 TD5 HSE
1987 Isuzu County
bit of feed back. While I haven't done any long runs yet I seem to be staying on 84 to 85c much better.
