    Suspension help

I recently installed new standard height Kings and TerraFirma pro sports in my 110 Puma. I am a very novice 4wd`er and in the last two days testing the new shocks/muds I have dislocated (slightly) my rear springs. Im talking mild off road here (remember I'm a novice). They have both times relocated themselves with much noise and carry on.

I am fearful when I step it up a notch, which I plan to do, I will get a dislocation that will need fixing in the bush. I carry spring compressors at all times, but really, who wants that drama in the bush?

The springs have retainers at the bottom (Which I assume is a standard setup). Do I A) fit Spring retainers at the tope of the springs or Fit relocation cones on the top?

    Any links would be appreciated.

Also, Im after a road legal solution.

    Thanks for any help

I had the rear springs dislocating and breaking the eyes of the standard rear shocks without much effort.

I got a set of dislocation cones and some new Terrafirma big bore +2 shocks (once Landrover replaced the originals under warranty) and the ride is a lot nicer now, and I haven't dislocated a spring since.

A couple of hose clamps at the top might work

I you're using a standard length spring then the shocks are probably longer than the originals. Fit standard length shock with standard length spring.
Sometimes on aftermarket spring of standard ride height has a shorter static length because they are "stiffer" so you gain a higher load capacity but you loose comfort as they don't articulate as the originals did ( in other words they start off shorter and don't move much) and consequently like to jump out at full stretch !
Were your new springs shorter than the originals when sitting on your workshop floor ?

After reading your post again I suspect that you may of had this suspension fitted buy a "suspension specialist". So my guess the shocks are longer than original. so you should check wether the brake hoses have enough length in them not to become like a piano string when axle is at full travel , dropped out. I had a customer with a disco a few years ago brought his vehicle in , yeah Mate she's got a 2 inch lift Konis all round and I lifted it on a to post hoist and when the axles dropped down one of the rear springs popped out and brake hoses were so tight it is a wonder they hadn't ripped out. They were fitted by a reputable 4x4 axccesorizer

Yeah, I'd go with the pro-sports being longer than the originals.
I've got +2" pro-sports on my D1 and when I checked the fully open length I found they were closer to 100mm longer than the originals, not 50mm!

As well as checking brake hoses at full travel, check that on full compression the axle is hitting the bump stop before the shocks bottom out - if the open length of the shocks is longer than standard, its closed length will probably be longer too.

That's right , I forgot to mention about the fully compressed length ,
It might need the extended bump-stops or raised upper shock mounts and taller front turrets.
She'll be right Dan, between you and me we'll fix it !

    ^^

Yeah extended bump stops might be needed (this limits upward suspension travel though), or raisers for the top shock mounts.

It's all fixable, but I think Chopper's first answer will probably be the easiest solution - standard length shocks with standard height springs!

Thanks for the advice guys. Doing a bit of reading on here and the standard Pro Sports are a fair bit longer than standard. The Kindgs I have put in are standard heigh.

Im going to put re-location cones in and check out the break line issues.

    Thanks again!
