D2 TD5 what do these fault codes mean?

    Hello there,

Ive had the disco on the road a few days since purchasing it.
I read all the fault codes on a Launch scan tool prior to test driving the car and the codes for the engine were.

    Airflow circuit fault logged low
    Road speed missing fault logged
Injector 3 open circuit detected. logged

I deleated all the codes and went around the block. Three kms later i get these codes.

    Manifold pressure circuit fault
Inlet air temp circuit fault low
    Multiplex input circuit fault low
    1% reference voltsge fault low
    Driver demand 3 fault low
    Ambient pressure circuit fault low.

Unfortunatley the scan tool didnt give me numbers only a description. The car wont change out of first gear when cold either unless i hit 4000 rpm. When it warms up it changes gears normally.

Does anyone think yhis sounds like the airflow meter?

    Regards,
    Michael.

Sounds like oil in the ECU plug.

The various faults are for different things.Pressure is the MAP sensor
Inlet temp is the inlet sensor in the side of the air cleaner
Driver demand is the accelerator pedal.

Look at the big red plug first. second look at the wiring loom from the MAF and air cleaner , maybe it has rubbed through usually at the front of the engine.

Inlet temp is part of the MAP/IAT on the inlet manifold.
The sensor on the air cleaner box is reported as Ambient Air Pressure and/or Ambient Air Temp.

"Multiplex input circuit" is most likely the Engine Coolant Temp // Fuel Temp input as these are multiplexed to the same pin in the MCU and the initial range checking done on this input register as a common code.

    Thanks guys.
I had already cleaned oil from the harness and ecu plug a week ago. Theres still no oil in those. I cant find any rub marks in the harness either. The same engine codes are constantly there. I clear them, turn ignition off, plug the scan tool back in turn on the ignition without starting the engine and the codes are back. Its a bit frustrating. Any more ideas?
    Thanks.
    Michael.

Auto not changing out of first till 4000 is usually a stuck governor, only does it first time moving off and is OK for the rest of the day when the trans oil warms up. An trans oil and filter change may help,, Regards Frank.

The "low" means the value the ECU is seeing is below the minimum value for that input.

Try checking the voltage on the coolant sensor pins vs the ECU earth point behind the battery with the ignition on.

It's best if you back probe the connectors - you can slide a pin along the wire and under the protective boot until it contacts the terminal and take a reading from the pin. Back probe leads are easier to work with if you can find them.

You are looking for around 5v on most of the sensors that are registering fault codes.

The auto shift problems are potentially caused by the engine temp sensor faults slid hold off changing filter//fluids until you sort the engine faults.

    Cheers
    Paul

Add: the other thing to check is that the earth wires from the ECU to the chassis ground are all in good condition, and that the battery strap is securely grounded to the same panel.

    Thanks for the info everyone.
Just a quick update. I replaced the AFM and all codes are now clear. The convertor lock up is now working as it should. It was unlocking way too easily before.

The trans still holds first gear and occassionally takes off in second when the car is cold. Im going to check the round black plug at the trans and make sure it has no oil in it as ive found out it can do funny things to shift patterns when cold. If thats not the issue i will remove the valve body and clean it out.

    Thanx again.
    Michael.
