Excellent guys youve definately come through on the advice. Im going with an auto box either way so the missus can drive (plus im lazy). The performance aspect that worries me is the passing ability. the country where im going is damn flat so hills arnt a problem. Im leaning towards the diesel at the moment for those long legs. The last landy i had was a series diesel so im used to slooooooow pickup.
Now the problem is finding one, not to thick on the ground round here.
    cheers

    Mick,
I'm doing the exercise now. Tried td5 auto todayand it blew me away.
we have used rovers for the past 35 years and the 99/00 td5 is great.later mods seem to have a lot of added stuff to go wrong outback.
Will post pic of what I finish up with but at the moment trying to shed salesmen bull****,will start again next week.
ps. top trick seems to be agree to change over price and when you accept they bump it up a couple of GRAND>>> lost me for life, hey.

How can they bump the price up AFTER you've agreed?

Then again those LR dealers are an innovative bunch of ******.
