limp home with a broken diff !!

Did anyone see the article in this month's 4WD Monthly (Issue : April 2004 Page : 161) in regards to putting your car into limp home mode if you blow a diff !!

As the article was written for a Toyo, just wondering how u would do it for a s1 v8 discovery, even though disco's never break down ?

I have heard of somehting like that being used for series vehicles (I haven't seen the article), but I don't know about other vehicles.

Wouldn't you need to have a CDL locked?

I haven't seen the article.

I read elsewhere that you completely remove the drive shaft to the offending diff or broken axle and with the cdl locked drive gingerly to the nearest workshop.

After spitting the odd diff over rthe years.
Rear diff most likly to blow.

1: remove drive shaft.
2: remove axles.
3: remove diff centre.
4: remove broken pieces from diff.
5: refit diff centre.
6: refit axles.
7: lock centre diff and drive away.

Front same but more hassels.
remove drive shaft.
remove short axles.
plug axle holes
lock centre diff drive home.

Good advice Michael,

It is easy to get part of the story by hearsay or glib posts.

I hope I don't have to need it or am in NRMA (RACV) range if it happens.
