thanks for the info Shane, i will check the breather on the pot and remove the filter for a go. When you say needle do mean the tip where the paint comes out?

sorry about the questions this is my first time spraying with a gun and compressor, so far i have sprayed using aersol packs

Just dropped into my local paint place and spoke to the resident expert, She has suggested the flow control might not be out far enough, she showed me on her gun how far she sets hers for primer which is basically all the way out.

Will give it ago on mine this arvo, best bit is she said if i still have any trouble ti bring my gun in and she will set it up for me on the primer then i can return it for her to set up for the Green paint

gotta love the extra distance she's going for me (probably feels sorry for me haha)

will give feed back when i archive a good result

I spray enamels generally and find that in hot (30+) weather using turps as thinning agent slows drying a lot. Also reduces shine so only for desperate need! May or may not work with some paints so it's experimental. I mix a little in a cup first and see if it mixes and then try some on some waste metal.

What size needle is on your spray gun? I use 1.8 for primer and 1.4 (or is it 1.2?) for topcoat.

Maybe you are spraying primer through the smaller needle?

Also, if you have the pressure set too high, that can cause the paint to go on 'dry' and you get a 'dusty' covering from the overspray. Try it at a bit lower PSI and see if that helps.
