    Strombergs

Is it possible to get Strombergs to work well with 4.6 or 3.9 engines? I believe that the carbs will need rejetting.

Its possible. I have a 4.8 with ported heads running on twin SUs, but don't know what mods have been made to make it run as well as it does.

Had a bored and stroked 3.5l put into the County and moved all of the external bits across. Motor worked out about 4.3l and needed to change the needles I think from a k to j (or maybe vice versa).

Since that was done it runs like the old motor.

Even though I can't give you a lot of information, it was possible out to a 4.3l with the carbs from the original 3.5l v8.

I think the problem in OZ is to find someone with a dyno and the expertise to do Fuel /air ratios on part throttle AND a source of needles.

The full throttle settings should be OK but the size of the carbys will be a limiting factor at the top end.
If you want more top end , the old way was to fit Jaguar 2 inch Sus. apparently they were considered by LR with RRC but were too expensive and not available in volume, and reduced low end torque.

The 4.6 will be going into 82 2 door. Not looking for a hot rod. Will be in standard tune which will be a distinct improvement on the 3.5.
Might go for a 4 barrel Holley or maybe EFI but really want to keep it simple.

Did that to the Rangie, still have them (2" SU) in the shed with the (near enough) right needles main problem was cold start in Canberra and trying to throttle {Choke} them (chortle). Used them on a bored out tower and ported inlet manifold to matched, polished, balanced heads on a 4.2 stroker. Even with the strommies that had serious grunt.

With the extra 1/2" throw on the stroker CS, torque not a problem

    EFI ain't keeping it simple!

Eventually went back to Strombergs because I couldn't get a mechanical start enrichment properly sussed. Had something that sort of worked but it wasn't elegant enough. The Jag auto choke vacuum and bimetalic strip system was really crap, cost jag owners heaps.

    Yeah Rangieman,
Trying to avoid a Holly or EFI. Am going to pursue the Stombergs. Will speak to a couple of specialists LR this week to see if it's poss together them to work ok.
