Have a look through your vehicles log and check if it has ever had a gearbox change or mods done to the g/box. It should already have the upgraded steel oil pump. I just stick with 15W40 diesel engine oil right through to the transfer case. Makes it easy at service time

If you decide to seal the mainshaft spacer make sure you engage 3rd gear in the box before you remove the output gear and spacer in the t/case, otherwise you could have trouble getting it back on. If they are a bit tight what happens is the mainshaft moves forward a little allowing the last thrust bearing to drop off the lip it sits on. Can be a bitch to locate it back in place. Putting it in 3rd stops the shaft moving. Wheres the photos Daryl?

No you are fine - there are plenty of oils - cheap and expensive that will go in no issues - just never use anything with EP90. However what works and is cheap is engine oil - there are people on here who want to make things harder than it needs to be and are constantly experimenting and some have paid the price.

If using other oil - you are wise to question if it will be compatible with the oil pump - again we know engine oil works - I do not know about Peak.

Nice mate, not only do you have one of the best landies around but it also has the best winch you will ever find.

Drove it for around 45 min this morning and it is noisier i.e., transfer whine, although the box shifts are exactly the same.
Guess I can put the whine down to less liquid and reduced viscosity in the transfer case, but doesn't really worry me, as long as wear is kept in check.
The record book shows that there has been no motor or box exchanges. So, I guess we'll wait and see how this goes, but still interested to hear ppls experiences and input with 75W85 or any MTF.

As a follow-up ....

After 5000km the main box 3-4th shift started to get notchy until the box locked in 4th.
Turns out, the rear mainshaft spigot had destroyed itself and in the process, the misalignment affected the syncros on 3-4.
I'm assuming that the syncros are so far out of kilter, or that there are some spring pads / balls / etc' jammed up in there.
Anyhow, I've swapped the box out and I'm using Penrite ProGear 75W-90 synthetic in both Xfer and main.

Castrol VMX 80 GL4, don't use a GL5 oil as it will damage brass and other associated metals, as the transfer case also has a differential in there a gear oil should be used, according to LR, Regards Frank.

Frank, you are right to advise that EP gearbox oil is certainly NOT to be used in the LT95 gearbox,

BUT I believe that it is correct to use the same oil in the transfer case as is used in the gearbox. Engine oil may be used in both but most users find that the lighter synthetic gearbox oils (e.g. Syntrans 75W 85) give better service.
