Vacuum Unit for Disco 3.9 97 model

    Hi All,

I was wondering if you guys out there can help me. I am trying to replace the vacuum unit in my disco and I don't know if I need to remove the distributor and replace the unit outside or if I can do the job without removing the distributor. Also if any of you blokes have any tips to do this job and want to share I will be grateful.

    Thanks

I replaced a vacuum unit on my 94 a few months ago and it cut a long story short it is much easier to remove the dizzy and replace it on a work bench. You can move the cap out of the way enough with the leads still on, take note of were the rotor is pointing inside (a dot with a texta on the side of the dizzy helps) and remember the position of the dizzy approximately for timing (you will need to time it again when you put it back together any way) A ring spanner is the best to remove the bolt holding the dizzy in place, and lastly when you put it back together dont tighten the bolt that much that you cant move the dizzy to get the timing correct.

    Hope that helps!

    cheers
