    Quick Easy TD5 starter repair

    Hi guys.
Tips on fixing a faulty starter motor on a TD5.
Having experienced the same issue in out TD5 Defender I was confident the D2 had the same issue. The fault is sometimes there is no crank when you turn the key, other times a slight delay and then she cranks.
I ordered a solenoid kit from Roverlord some time ago, holiday coming up so time to sort it out.
With the Defender I removed the starter motor, anybody who has removed a TD5 starter motor will tell you this aint no easy job.
With the D2,I was going to use the hoist at work, but a workmate was using it.I jacked the body up with the roo jack a bit to make a bit more room for my ample guts under the vehicle.
I removed the 3 screws of the solenoid cover revealing my diagnosis was correct.I also noted the secondary contact that sends power from the solenoid was 90% good. The primary contact from the battery was 99% gone, circular contact on the plunger 50% worn.
Decided replace the worn parts insitu,no need to remove the starter motor, also left the secondary contact, only because Im lazy and was having trouble reaching the nut from my floor creeper.
A Defender will be a bit harder to do without removing the starter due to the engine been further forward,a hoist would make this easy job simple.
The worn bits. The job took me 30mins including getting tools out/packing up.
