Hi, you may have a problem with the relays not holding take off the driver's side kick panel and feel up in the maze of wiring , just out of site is a group of relays, pull and swap them one at a time, one is for the aircon logic and another is also for the aircon system. I had this problem on my D1, it seems as the contacts on relays get old, they lose conductivity to close the circuit. So the aircon has loss of power.
Since you had it regassed, I think it is a relay going.

compressor is operating though, although thermos were not so i simply ran a manual bypass for the time being and they work fine. Ive had a look in the kick panel behind the fuses but though (correct me if im wrong) that if the compressor is working (which it is after some contact cleaner onto the contact near it) then all should be good or am i ignorant how the system works? Also would you have any idea which relay in particular your refering to?

Hi sorry I miss read your post, you have an early D1 if its 200TDi, I assumed it was 300TDui. Wiring will be. different

On my old V8 it had 2 relays, The Ac logic relay and a compressor relay, hooking up power to compressor did not circulate the gas, There was a valve switch in the piping on rge later D1, i had to bypass that with a wire to the plug terminals to bridge that and go it working on another occasion, it was the pressure valve.
I'll check if there is info on the D1 200tdi

Here is info for 200tDi hope it helps. It lists the colours of the relays.

If a aircon unit is out of gas the mechanic who filled it up have to find leak first before regassing .
Not very professional I must say !!!

agree,Yep on suction to remove the existing gas if any should have shown a leak as it would not have evactuated properly

The place that did mine asked if I wanted a dye added to regas $20 extra for future leak detection.
