    Turbo Blankets

    Has anyone ever run a turbo blanket? I see them mentioned on ricer forums as ways to keeping underbonnet temps down, but only in race applications.

    I guess a water crossing won't do it any favours - but it would dry out pretty fast!

    They seem expensive for what they are, but if they extend the life of everything around the turbo in the engine bay it could be worth it.

    Their main purpose is to keep in the heat so the turbine can perform better. Reduced heat in the engine bay is a bonus.

    As bush65 said more of an efficiency thing but with the bonus of less radiated heat much like exhaust wrap

    I lagged the exhaust on my series 2 diesel fitted with a turbo. When I removed the lagging 2 years later, the amount of corrosion on the exhaust was more than what had been acquired naturally for the previous 20 years. so I left it off. It had never been through deep water. Never again.
