If your oil is grey then you probably have water mixed in with the oil, check your diff breather and pipe are clear, Regards Frank.

No no no, don't keep the drain plug a little loose........... maybe keep the FILL plug a little loose.
Do your swivel housings have the little LEVEL plugs (right next to the steering stop bolts) ?
If you've done the one shot thing and the diff is filled to the right level there should be no leak if you open one of the level plugs in one of the swivels.
What Dave (Blknight) is maybe alluding to is the diff may be overfilled, diluting the one shot which is maybe mixing with the diff oil and that's why your diff oil is grey.
In any case no one is going to die :)

Hi,
My mistake i should have explained it better.
Picked up two new cortec seals, different design to the blue box ones i fitted.
(Inner Diameter [mm]
30,7
(Outer Diameter [mm]
51,03
(Thickness [mm]
9,5
(Material
Nbr (nitrile)
Will be fitting the spring side to the diff housing.
Will fill the diff on level ground so it just drains out the fill plug, then add one tube per swivel of STC 3435 LR one shot grease.
Yes i do have the two fill plugs just above the bump stops, that where i normally fill & check the level from.
Just put the disco on axle stands and undone the fill plug on the diff housing and its filled up above the level and poured out, so its migrating all into the diff. Oil is dark grey with a silver shine to it so its grease for sure.
May be if this doesn't work look at fitting breathers to the swivels, anyone done this, did you drill & tap the drain plug or just obtain a fitting that threaded straight into the fill plug hole?
Jim
Jim, if you're talking about the plug on the front of the diff, that will be wrong and probably be an overfill which could be the cause of your prob.
Exactly my prob years ago.
The level plug (if fitted) is on the side of the main casting and you fill to the BOTTOM of the hole.
One of my diffs has this level plug, the other doesn't. I just fill with the correct volume for a RRC (1.7 litres). All good!
cheers, DL
To add breathers to the swivels you can get a brass reducer fitting that screws into the housing and has a smaller female thread for a more reasonably sized barbed fitting to push on a breather hose. Should cost less than $20- from pirtek etc.
