Nitestalker lights - anyone got any comments?

    G'day Guys,

I want to install some cheap aux lights to the front of my RR.

In 4WD Monthly they did a big feature about 20 pairs - mainly combo spot and drivers lights.

Of course the Lightforce 240 far out shone (pardon the pun) all others but the best budget buy was Nitestalker 170 Series.

I have been told by a TJM store that these are basically Cibie lights, just older models - does anyone have any experiences (good or bad) with the Nitestalkers???

BTW they came 4th out of 20 pairs - only beaten by 2 pairs of Lightforce and one pair or IPF, beating all others like Hella / Nane / Narva etc

and they only cost $139/pair of combos!!!

Nitestalker lights - anyone got any comment

Hi LRHybrid100, I drive about 6,000 every month and about 2,000 is at night on country roads so I like good lighting.
On my 2 Discos I ran 4 Hellas with 130 watt globs and a set of 55 watt fogs that were pointing more to the side of the road and were more for spotting roos than lighting up the road.
NOTE never found a fog light that worked in fog?
When I got the Rangie, I put a set of IPFs on it and ran 130 watt globs.
The result was ordinary. 4 Hellas would do a better job and would have cost less.
BUT 2 weeks ago I noticed I had blown 1 of the 130 watt globs, so I went along to my local Autobarn at Burleigh Jct.
The manager is also a good customer of mine ( I look after him and he looks after me )
He said I would eventually have a hard time getting 130 watt globs as they were going to or had already been outlawed and then he told me about
the new Phillips range of globs.
He told me the top of the range 55 watt replacements were brighter and whiter than the old 130 watters.
At $98-oo a pair they dame well would want to be.
After fitting them and readjusting the IPFs, I tried them that night around town, seemed to be brighter definitely WHITER.
But as they say the proof is in the pudding. This last weekend was a long weekend in Queensland and I went out west.
With out exaggerating there was about a 70 to 80% improvement in the long distance lighting and depending on how long the last, I will be using them from now on in.
The price is ridiculous now but as long as they last longer than the old type they will be good value.
I now intend to change all the headlight and Rangie driving light globs over to the Phillips as soon as possible.
So maybe save your money on the brand of lights and send it on the new type globs.
PS the quickest way the brighten existing diving lights is to replace the wire they came with and fit 5mm wire, both for the positive and 5mm for the negative and run the negative from the light back to the negative terminal of the battery. You will find that the lights are not only brighter but the globs will last longer.
    Regards.

cheers - I was going to replace the bulbs and upgrade the wiring to a relay system on the main lights at the time I install the combo.

Nitestalker lights - anyone got any comment

    Two points to help.
1 Use a seperate relay and fuse for the left and right high beam as the lower load on each relay will reduce resistance and increase light brightness.
PS This will also protect you from ending up in the dark as would be the case if you use only 1 relay and fuse, and the fuse was to blow.
2 Take your positive from the battery positive terminal not at the Alt, this will allow the battery to act like a large capacitor and thus reduce the size of spikes getting into the rest of the vehicles electrical system.
    Hope this is helpfil, regards.

I have had a set of 7" Nite Stalkers in the spreadbeam configuration for about five years now on the old ****** mobile and now on my Disco. Overall, many, many k's on out back roads and I still have the original H1 100w globes in them. There is no rust at all and the mounts are still tight. The light spread is great as well as the distance. A set of the old style 7" headlight perspex covers fitted straight on so are protected at all time. 4wd Monthly got it wrong I reckon, these are the best value around with the current price from Opposite lock at $199 pair with wiring kit.
