    Wider flares on a Defender.

    Hi all,
Has anybody seen or heard of aftermarket flaers for defenders that are wider than the factory ones ???

When I have the Simex's on they stick out about 1" due to their width and the wide rims...

I have thought of an extension but that would only close the wheel opening more. What would be better would be to replace the 45 degree flares that are about 100mm long with somre that are set at 20-25 degrees and about 120 mm long. The bodywork would not need to have the hack & slash and the overall look would ve very close to standard...

    Any thoughts ?

I 4WD with this fella a fair bit. He has used conveyer belt to extend his with massive offset wheels.

Looks like it works great, and also doesnt look out of place at all.

Mmmm, interesting. This idea looks like it works well. I might look into something similar.

    Thanks for the suggestion...

Spent some time over the weekend and extended the flare by about 3". Should cover up the Simex's really well now.
I got some 75x6 rubber and some 1.6 chequer plate and LOTS of rivets. After all a Landy has lots of aluminium, rubber and rivets already...
Used existing holes so all of it can be restore back to how it was before. Looks OK for a hack job. I'll get some pics when I can.

sorry to bring the post back from the dead,
but im in a similar boat, and have not found much extra info on my search,

some one had mentioned jeep flairs,
I took a spin though the car park today and tracked a wrangler down, they seem like they would fit pretty well, beind a flat sided truck the same as a fender, does anyone know how well they fit? or seen pics of it done?
they are not much wider then standard, but seem to sit nicly cut on the jeeps, so I was thinking the clearance would be good for slight lift and bigger tires, to clear the diff more,
any one have any thoughts? or pics?

Yeah Scott - I think that they are the extended variety made by Warn.

Thanks champ, they are the extended ones for sure, they dont look too bad a little too much checker plate for me and a bit too wide, but now I know they fit, I recon the standard ones will look pretty good,
thanks again for the quick reply
