    Urgent 12V vs 24 V problem

Presently trying to do the electrics on Nelson. Nelson use to be a 24v FFR but is now 12V. However my wiper motor and my Hella flasher unit are both 24V and I was wondering if this is the reason I can't a) get my wiper motor to work and b) why I can't get any of my lighting to work.

Assuming my flasher unit works will the fact its 24V be a problem or do I need to replace it with a 12V (I notice 24V are much cheaper than 12V) Is the fact my wiper motor is 24v be the reason it isn't working or may it be something else?

    Thanks for any help.

Excuse my ignorance but what is Nelson? 101, UK FFR or GQ Patrol?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Would you expect a 440 V electric motor to run off your kitchen power point? If it's 24V it won't run on 12V I'm surprised you are not blowing fuses trying? Either you are 12V or 24V you can't mix it.

the 24v flasher can will work if its bi metalic and not electronic.

    the wiper motor wont work

but if its a landrover none of the main electrics are 24V if its FFR its only the radio gear and its mostly independent of the main wiring.

Except if its a 24V Land Rover 101 or a 24V Land Rover FFR Lightweight or a 88/109 Land Rover FFR ex-UK.

Its the Oz FFR and the UK 90 and 110 FFR which are dual voltage.

Nelson is a Series 3 Lightweight. Originally in service as an FFR but sometime between demob in about 83 and now the radios have been removed and any extra batteries. It has previously been registered in Queensland and although in theory the 24v wiper motor shouldn't work, but since it has been registered you would expect that the wipers would have been working at some point, hence the question.

They may run but would run slowly. You should be able to swap a 12V wiper motor from any Stage 1, 110 county or Defender. The SIII only being single speed most of the time in Oz.
