Thread: Transfer Case Lever Assembly

I have just pulled out my transfer case lever assembly (it was clogged) and can't work out what I am doing wrong. When I slide the cross shaft through the housing it drags the selector fork including the cog into the housing too and the O ring falls off. Now when all connected back up to the link rod the selector fork cog will not be able to be dragged back into the housing and I wont' be able to engage diff lock
I guess what I am asking is should the cross shaft move freely through the selector fork with out moving it?
