    Coolant change Defender 300tdi

    Is there a coolant drain plug in the block or the radiator.

    All I could see was to disconnect the bottom rad. hose, (it is a pain to get at the hose clamp)

    Unfortunately there is no separate drain for the cooling system. Removing the bottom hose is the method recommended in the workshop manual. :roll: It looks like you're going to end up with a shoe full of coolant soon. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

    Just returned from a trip to Tassy. Coolant changed from green to brown.

    Guess a lot of "high speed" driving stirred things up.

    Oh I wish for the drain cock that is on my series iii.

    Is a drain plug on left side of block behind dip stick pipe. Bit of a pain to access but possible.

    Might as well take the radiator out since you're changing the coolant anyway and for a few dollars get a radiator repair shop to install a drain tap. Just make sure they locate it somewhere you can get at but won't get injured in offroad adventures. Makes sense to me anyway.

    just did my S3s on the weekend. Don't think you are missing out - its a faster drain anyway - the taps tend to spray a lot. If there is one on the side of the block you've gotta open the base on the radiator as well.

    Pulling the pipe helps to stop it fusing & may save you a lot of frustration in the long term / in a breakdown situation.

    The glycol helps keep your hands soft & supple 8O
