    Bull Bar Advice Please.

I just did a search of the forums for advice on bull bars and couldn't find anything, so I apologise if this has already been covered before.

I've just picked up a new Disco and would like some advice on which brand of b-bar to put on it. I have come across the following:
    - ARB Deluxe bar with Warn winch
    - TJM bar
    - Land Rover official.

Has anyone on here fitted any of these bars to an MY03 Disco who can give some advice?

    Many thanks,
    Chantry's

Both ARB and TJM are top quality and you will have no problems with either, both make straight bull bars and with winches if required. I have a TJM on my discovery and have had no problems with it - wrecked my first one in an accident but it did it's job namely saving the rest of the car.

    Hope that is of help

    cheers

I have an ARB Standard Black bar on the MY03, ARB side rails and the IPF HIR lights. I am very happy with the package but just check the quality of the fitting when you get home. My Fog lights were useless when re-fitted, the extra indicator globes were to high a wattage causing the trailer warning lights to come on and you loose the protection to the washer bottle. My ARB store in Collingwood Melbourne does not inspire too much faith in their ability but I still like the ARB product, just check the quality of the install. On the price, Get a quote, pull 12.5 % off it and Bargain hard, you should at least get that much off if they want your business.

I have the factory "protection bar" on my 01 Disco. It is a light duty thing handy for waking up the "touch-parkers" in the 'burbs. It appears to be made of nothing more than exhaust pipe bent up and plastic coated. Looks neat with the wrap around and headlight guards but wouldn't stop a 'roo at 60Km/Hr. Handy for signalling when the approach angle is getting close though...

If you want a proper bar, I agree with the rest of the gang and go for an ARB or TJM. East Coast Bullbars (EC in Redcliffe (Qld) do some nice shiny things with aluminium too.

With any of the good aftermarket stuff, they are airbag compatible which is important for legal requirements.

If you intend to fit a winch then get an ARB op lock or TJM bar (steel), if no winch then almost any will suffice with aluminium being significantly lighter.

    Owen,
Funny you should mention ARB in Collingwod. I have a dual battery system fitted to my defender when I got it and it was screwed up too.
    , BIG time.

    Chantry,

Don't forget to factor in a suspension upgrade after the bull bar installation. The factory springs tend to sag after some time and so you find yourself bottoming out over small pot holes and speed bumps. This is due to the weight of the aftermarket bullbar (and winch).

    Cheers,

I had 2 discos both with factory fit BBars. I had the first one for 4 years and by the time I sold it, the bar had had some chips in it and the rust was every where.
The second disco,s ( an 01 ) BBar just did not fit properly and cured me of ever having an other factory BBar again.
    regards

The only other advice I can give is take down the blinkers details when new! They are a problem to get 10 years on,
    oh and go Genuine.
