    Correct 82c Thermosat...?

With recent warm weather I decided that I would look at getting a 82c thermosat for my 2003 D2a V8. Did the research and decided that the PEM101020 would be the way to go. So I punch in PEM101020 and I get this link from fleabay: Thermostat FOR Land Rover Rover O E NR PEM101020 Calorstat 6880 00 | eBay

It shows a nice black thermostat with OEM PEM101020 and Calorstat 6880.00 which I expect to be the black 82c thermostat.

The thermostat arrives and its in a Calorstat box marked 6880.00. Open the box and the Thermostat is a cream colour and is marked >PA66+30GF< and 92C.

I dont like the look of the 92c marked on the thermostat itself as I was expecting 82c. Does the PEM101020 only come in 82c?

I am thinking that the fleabay seller advertised the thermostats he had without checking whether there was a difference in temperature between the products.

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated

unfortunately the part numbers wont guarantee what temp thermostat you get....
I paid $70 bux for a reputable brand thermostat part no PEL500110 supposed to be 82c, which turned out to be 92C.
No refund either because I fitted without checking the temp inside, at the time i didn't realize It can be seen by looking closely inside the unit.

I hounded a few sellers to check the op temp before buying another...

    Exclamation PEL500110 thermostat

Not being able to trust the part number is very disturbing- I was hoping to buy a grey PRT of that code for my MGF to take advantage of what I thought would be the lower 82C opening temperature. Your observation about the temperature rating being visible inside is invaluable. However, I checked my existing PRT Part No. PCH001190, natural colour, and all it had inside is WAXSTAT 11 9. The literature suggests that It is meant to open at 87C. I tested it by pouring near boiling water into the inlet side and checking the temperature at which it opened- around 88-90C.

There's Cream, Black and grey from memory. I've listed the 3 part no's and temps and applications a few timers now. The one you want is from a freelander with a soft spring and cream by memory. The original V8 D2 t/stat is the same color but 92deg and the relief spring is harder so it won't bypass fluid to the cooling circuit at idle it needs revs to pressurise it.

    Soft-spring 82deg thermostat update

Old thread, but there is an update about the soft spring 82deg PEL500110 Freelander thermostat...experience has shown others that their on-the-road running temps increased in V8s, possibly through water pressure forcing a partial radiator bypass to occur at road revs. The hard spring 82deg PEM101020 is the correct substitute. These apparently can be cream or black.
