Disco 1 No power to rear wheels

    Hi Guys

I recently got a disco 1 and took it for a drive on the beach for the first time on the weekend.
    Got myself stuck.

Put Maxtrax behind the rear wheels to get out (was reversing out) and got no power to the rear wheels. Diff lock was on. Front wheels both span but nothing going to the back.

Ended up moving them to behind the front wheels and got out without too much trouble.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

    Cheers

sounds like a rear diff or axle.

    What year disco is it?
If its an early one, it would have 10 spline axles... which can be quite weak.
If its a later one (94ish on) it will have the rubber doughnut on the diff end of the rear prop.. that may be flogged out.

or more seriously, could be something internal in the transfer case..
Does it drive with the centre lock disengaged?

If it was me, i would first eyeball the doughnut (if it has one) if that is ok, I would remove the axles, if they are ok, take out the diff centre.

If you need any spares, I have started a Land rover and Range Rover wreckers! Im in Brisbane, but can ship anywhere.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers.

Silly question but did you put it in the locked position in the h pattern or just push the lever into low

or the centre diff lock itself is inop
    interesting that both front's spun
jack up a rear wheel and lock the centre diff and see if the rear tail shaft can turn by hand, if so then the centre diff is not locking and the wheel off the ground should turn. if it does not turn ( the tail shaft ) then see if you can turn the wheel ( all while the centre diff is still engaged)
If so then like CTY90 said rear axle or diff

If it drives along the road with the center diff lock disengaged, the problem is the center diff lock is not engaging.
Does the light come on the dash for diff lock?

    Hey there CTY90.
Are you allowed to email your address to me, I'm down in Brizzie and may need a couple of bits. "elswhere@darucreek.com". Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'll do some checks this weekend.

    Its a '96 v8.

Diff lock was on and in low range. Dash light was on.

Drives fine (ish) on the road. Some issues when on LPG but that's a separate problem.
