Prince of darkness strikes again
Over the past few weeks my starter motor has been playing up. Some does it starts ok, others it throws out and seems to just spin freely, while at other times it just clicks like a flat battery. I have fully charged the battery checked and cleaned all earths plus cleaned the whole starter and wiring and I am still having this problem.
It also seems to not charge for a while after I do get it going.
Can anyone help me out? Or am I up for a new starter.

If you hadn't mentioned the "throws out and spins freely" I would say ignition switch or starter relay (I'm assuming the V8 110 is the same as the earlier Rangies).
I had this problem for a long time with my old rangy and it was traced back to a dodgy ignition switch (mind you I never replaced it prior to trading in)
Does it work OK if you short the starter solenoid (assuming you can get at it) this will eliminate the starter - work back to the relay then ignition switch.

I haven't tried shorting it yet. I am a bit scared by electrics.

have you checked the starter solenoid or maybe the (Used to be called) (Dog clutch) thats the mechanism that throws the starter cog forward to engage with the ring gear
have fun
