D100 Building

    G'day Guys,

Well my D100 plans have slightly changed in the last couple of weeks - a mate of mine was buying my spare V8 and then needed some diffs ugently and managed to convince me to sell him my project vehicle.

    So I've started from scratch!!!

The specs are the same 3.9EFI V8 / ZF Auto / BW tranfer / Defender 2 door 100" body - but all now on a Defender Chassis rather than a RR one.

I bought a D110 chassis on Saturday, got it home 1 pm:

By 4pm it was now a rolling chassis

and by 6pm it had some formation of a body - still D110 for the moment.

Now the plan is to shorten the D110 to 100" wheelbase then get the chassis sandblasted / acid dipped / galvanised - anyone recommend a good galvaniser?

Once this is done then the body will be shortend by 10" and then we are back to the basis - D100 chassis.

    Current shopping list is:

    D110 front push button doors
    D110 Truck Cab

If anyone can help with these it would be appreciated.

I will keep anyone informed if requested,

    BR LRH.

After all this time I cant believe you sold it :!:

Still, this one looks good already, nice flares on the tub, I can hear Ferno growling already!

so where, exactly, are you going to cut 10" out of her?

This looks like fun LRH. I wish I had the time & space to do something similar.

I notice you're planning on using a BW transfer case. I'd be interested to know what the benefit is for your plans compared to an LT230?

While you chopping the tub around to lose 10", do you have any plans a knocking a bit more off to reduce the rear overhang? After all, you'll have the jigsaw and angle gringer out anyway.

I'm going to be moving the rear bulkhead backwards by 10" and then get someone then to get the front cut / machined - so it looks like it has not been touched.

The chassis will be shortened where the rear outrigger is - cutting both the outriggers and the crossmember out - will then reposition the crossmember 10" further back and the outriggers will then be sat on top of the rear trailing arm mounts.

    Does this make sense?

the chassis will be actually shortened by 11" then have a sleeve inserted inside the chassis - with approx 1" showing and welding around both sides of the original chassis, then plate all around the chassis.

I did want to shorten the rear end - but didn't want to loose too much of the rear tray and also still use a standard fuel tank.

My mate has a Hybrid 100" using a S111 rear tub with the same overhang and doesn't have a problem rock crawling - but does have 33" BFG MTs!!!

How about an update on the progress of this vehicle, mate ?

Also I'm thinking of replacing the tray on my ute with a tub - and would love to know the details of yours....

Post it or PM me, please.

    Cheers
