    Gutless TD5

    Hi all,
    I am having real trouble getting my D2 TD5 manual to drive well.
    It has an EU3 motor with a VNT set up, boost box and a late model intercooler.Re-mapped by Jose at td5inside .The trouble is , it is totally gutless below 1500rpm. I have loaded a new map in from inside TD5 and tested the car and can feel slight improvement up in the rev range from 2000rpm on but no improvement in the range from idle to 1500rpm. Below 1500 rpm it is totally gutless , i mean no power . If i am on a slight incline i have to ride the hell out of the clutch to prevent stalling and even then it still bogs down and takes ages to make its way to 1500 where it kicks in with heaps of power.
    I feel there must be some underlying problem but i don't know where . I installed the VNT and boost box from BAS as they said and have made no adjustments to the turbo. I have been back and forward with differentMaps and fuelling tuning with Jose.
    Is there any chance the map is causing this?
    Is there anything someone can suggest i do to solve this problem? The car is horrible to drive like it is !
    I have made the regular checks ; i replaced the injector harness , bought a new MAF , replace the MAP sensor.It has a new fuel pump , clean filters and new FPR.
    When i sent back my fuelling log, Jose mentioned some irregular logs on the fuelling, This may be due to the cause of all my dramas but i don't know what to look for . This is my second TD5 D2 and I know this car should drive better than this and i need it to tow my boat so i need to fix this problem.
    If anyone has had a similar problem or can make a suggestion as to what could be the cause, please let me know .
    I have been trying to get this right for ages now and i am sick burning the clutch by driving it as it is.
    Waiting in anticipation for a solution!

    Thanks , Bill.

I only get 4.9999 volts at the pedal when it reads 5 volts goes much better. Whereabouts in Perth are you ?

    Hi mate, It may be worth having a chat to Andrew at Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown, Victoria. They have done a lot of work with re-mapping the TD5's with VNT's. I have driven a vehicle that they have re-mapped and it is incredible how much power it had low down... Cheers, Aaron.

    Generally a TD5 is gutless below 1500-1800rpm.
    Autos are generally better as they deal with the turbo lag better.
    Not sure what you are expecting.
    Is this a change or just since you have taken ownership.

    Thanks for the replies guys, please keep them coming , i will try anything to get this solved!
    The gutlessness is far beyond the regular low rev lag. I have owned an identical vehicle and towed the same boat easily previously, i also had a 200tdi bog standard defender that had more go in the low revs than this.
    I will check the TPS! Good tip , thanks.
    This vehicle was an auto that i have done a manual conversion on !
    It was laggy with the auto as well but i figured the auto was on the way out 250 000km and had a few issues with the xyz and so decided i would swap it over as i had all the parts.

    Maybe check the waste gate isn't jammed. My D2 had something similar, also threw a heap of over boost codes, which were (i think) mis-diagnosed as a faulty MAP sensor. When we finally figured out it was the waste gate (as I always suspected) it made sense. NO go down low, smoke from over fuelling due to low MAP as the turbo had no exhaust much to set it spinning. Once it did get going, it went like a train, but keeping it on boost was REALLY hard.....
    Good luck!!

    Thanks Matt, although the vnt is new! But i guess it could be faulty from factory, i never really thought of that .
    I had a look at the TPS readings at idle as follows;
    Pos.1 0.743, Pos.4 .295, Pos.3 4.677 supply 5.000
    Full throttle ;
    Pos.1 3.750, Pos.2 1.358, Pos.3 1.368 supply 5.000

    When you did the conversion was a manual ecu put in or was it just changed in the bcu?
    I would start by unplugging the MAF is it no different or better it gives you a starting point. EU3 engines suffer from MAF issues a lot worse then EU2 engines.

    All the running gear is out of my old d2 that i rolled a couple of years back ,wheels , tyres 255/55/18", gear box , ecu nnn000120 ,intercooler.
    I will try unplugging the MAF. I have spoken with Jose from td5inside and will unplug the boost box and take some readings to rule out the turbo.
    Thanks for the input so far !
