Question I NEED HELP REMOVING D1 STARTERMOTOR

The top mounting bolt (v8) for the starter is bloody ridiculous to access, probably the original not touched since 1996 and bloody well seized in there. I'm left with no option but to remove the exhaust manifold to get some leverage on it. The exhaust is off from the flange and heatshield out of the way but am looking for others tips or tricks that may help please. If not I guess the manifold is coming off too!

You think that is hard!! My mate had a jag and I stupidly offered to remove starter motor!! Remove both front bucket seats, remove centre console and stereo system. That was so you could climb under the dash, unbolt an inspection plate and hey presto ! There was the head of the bolt holding the starter motor. That was only the first step. 4 hours to get out and another 4 hrs to refit. Jim

Buy an Allen key socket of the correct size, use a Quality extension bar, long enough to get past the front of the starter, a breaker bar, keep the ext. straight and swing on the bar, you only need to crack it. NOTE, make sure there is no crud in the head of the Allen Bolt, good luck, Regards Frank.

use a 5/16" NOT an 8mm allen key, and like frank says it is imperative to clean out the mud and rubbish from inside the head of the allen bolt.

also, if you are replacing the starter and not repairing it, then breaking the starter off is actually an option. I have had to use this method in the past, time is $$ for me, and the customer. If I spent 1 hour removing a knackered starter from a vehicle then I have rocks in my head.

If you've rofunded the inhex out you can get away with hammering in a torqz bit.

Have you tried heating the bolt with a pencil torch yet?

Hearing first then hammering in the torqz bit is usually pretty reliable
