Tend to agree with Pedro on this one.
Though doing anything normally leads to a problem somewhere else, broken axles, broken mountings, sometimes bent or cracked chassis.... in my case being a conversion it was breaking the gearbox three times. Okay I admit first time was my fault, flat shifting hard up through the gears from the lights blowing off a commodore, used to think I could make it go like a performance vehicle that it will never be. The other times was the torque of the holden on the frail landy box when offroading was more that it was designed to handle.

So I'm guessing if your going to spend half the national debt getting it all to work and yep there will be unforseen problems which will cost heaps, in the end you still have a 19_ _ land rover that is worth less that what you put into it.
If you want performance, yank out the 2.25 and dump the 3.5L V8 with running gear in out of a 109. Friend of mine has done the conversion, leaves my mildly worked holden motor looking like it's steam engine.

super charger

Hi all,

Pedro_the_swifts right, Rovertech here in WA fit Superchargers
to Rover V8 engines.

Dont know if they do any for other LR engines.

Western 4WD had interesting article on a Disco specially set up
for gold exploration here in the West,
Owner tows an offroad tandem trailer carrying bikes, fuel, water
camping gear for extended periods. Along with gear in the Disco
theres a fair bit of weight.
Main value of supercharger to allow him to overtake road trains.

I'd like to see that 8O

Would'nt mind fitting one to my Disco, would help me overtaking
and thats with only the wife and kids in car, let alone towing
something.

Cheers !!!!!

Streaching the memory a bit here but I recall some time back not too long ago that Fiat produced an engine (1.5 litre i think) that had a small superchager and turbo set up .

The supercharger opperated at low rpm and the turbo at hi rpm , they were fitted with air con like clutches and computer controlled. I believe it was fitted to cars in Italy only.

Can`t see why a similar set up would not be feasible on a tdi engine, minus the ECU , could be opperated using pressure switches to activate/deactivate the superchager and with out tinkering with the turbo :?:

Info on toyota blower.

The 2nd hand clutch driven Toyota blower would work well, and flows enough air for around 170kW at the flywheel. Castlemaine Rod shop have a kit for a Holden commodore V6 (around 130kW as standard and similar architeture to the alloy 3.9ltr), and reportedly boosts power to around the 160kw mark with only 4psi boost. It is a rootes design, and is not really suitable for big boost, but is ideal for a heavy 4wd, to give it help in the bottom end of the rev range. Im seriously thinking about fitting one in My Mrs 99 disco, cos 128 kW just aint enough.

These engines are ideal for a blower, cos they have low compression, and have big oil capaicty. The only stumbling block would be the engine management system, would need some re-calibration to accept boost safely.

If your injectors flow enough fuel you might be able to get away with a piggyback style computer that alters the signals to the main ECU. PF-COM is one that comes to mind and cost is low hundreds. Fairly user friendly software, so you can program it yourself if you wish or take it to someone. Might work out about the same as a reprogrammed chip (chiptorque or similar) and dyno time except if your ECU isn't easily re-programmed.

CRS does a toyota supercharger kit for the inline sixes as well for those running series conversions if interested.

Id say the disco has plenty of headroom left in the factory injectors. U can always have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, to slightly increase fuel pressure under boost.

Chemicals,

What you are considering is exactly what i was considering a electronically clutch activated aircond like cheap jap cupercharger.

It will work great at aroun 4-6PSI boost with abit of fuel mixture changes but I just couldnt get the space under the bonnet with out **** fart arsing round to much.

Other than that if you wanna boost a rover V8 this is a good cheap way to go about it, but be ready to **** fart arse around abit and dont run high boost.

Any one that suceeds with one of these toyota superchargers please let me know how you got it all in under the bonnet as I will be interested at some stage or other...when I can be abit more bothered just to lazy at the moment

I reckon if you are keen you should talk to Dave at Cruisin body works in Brisbane, he is great at this stuff, making drives and manifolds, he has one of these under the lid of a Mini. His E type jag has an Opticon screw blower and it's all under the bonnet. He gets manifolds cast up or makes them from mandel bent pipe.

If U lay the blower off to the side, there is heaps of room, but U may need to use another airbox, or relocate it.
