Defender door trim: remove and replace

Can anyone advise me of the best way / steps involved in removing and refitting the interior door trim on a Defender :?:

Any special tools I need or can make ?

(I need to get at the window mechanism and the lock).
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Yes I had the passenger front to remove when the outer handle push button broke off. My final way was to use a thin blade, similar to a painters putty knife, and break the plastic clips off. These I bought from the local rover dealer for $1.10 each. A couple of clips came out clean but I was not going to risk damaging the door trim by forcing it away from the metal door frame.

Maybe someone else has a better way but mine worked.

Also check the inside of the door for rust as mine had a bit starting. I treated it with a thin coat of grease and that should fix it.

    Good luck.

I'm pulling the door trim off my vehicle tomorrow, so I'll take some pictures and post them here on Wednesday if you can wait that long.

I looked at this over the weekend. The workshop manual says you need a trim removal tool. A screwdriver would get it off, but you wouldn't get it back on. A friend who has done it says to leave it alone if you can as it will never go back quite right.

    Vlad et al,

Pictures in my gallery under "Central Locking Install".

Removing the door trim is not difficult and, providing you're a bit careful, you should be able to do it without breaking any (or many) trim clips. You'll need a flat blade screwdriver, a phillips screwdriver, and an 8mm socket. Should take about 10 minutes. Just buy a few replacement trim clips beforehand...just in case.

Edited to add: my lot is on page 2 of the gallery, under "Paul's distraction", for the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen it all before.

Yep, good advice. 10 minutes sounds right. Also get the spare clips or plan to buy some after removal, after all series 2a's had the best type of door trim - NONE!
