    Loctite Mirror Bonding Kit

    Hi all'
Looking for some advice about sticking a mirror mount plate to the windscreen glass on the inside of a Defender.

I've replaced the rearview mirror and have tried 3 times to bond the mounting plate using 3 separate Loctite mirror bonding kits.

The first held 2 days and the others held all of 2 mins. I followed the instructions and have used the loctite kits many times when i was in the trade. Although I remember the primer being a spray jobbie in those days and you sprayed both contact surfaces if I remember correctly. The kit is a small vial of primer.

Not sure whats wrong but certain that I have cleaned the glass to a good standard.. at $14 a kit its just getting stupid now.

    Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Cheers

    Nino.

I've done many falcon mirrors using 2 part 5 min araldite.
I removed the mounting plate spread the 5 min araldite and hold it to the wind screen by finger pressure. 5 mins of holding a finger on a plate against a windscreen seems like an eternity, but held for years. next day fit the mirror to the plate.

Done this myself quite recently to the little Daewoo runabout. First application of the Selleys (I think) specific mirror adhesive lasted a couple of days, then pulled the glass off! Araldite on the chunk of glass still stuck to the mirror bracket, held in place until it holds itself there, then 24 hours to put the mirror back.

Been there a couple of months now.

The beauty of the sikaflex products is they are flexable. Something like a rear vison mirror that is long and heavyish for its small mounting area is going to put alot of stress on the adhesive. Anything with no give is likely to fail or cause failure.

imagine every bump you go over and the mirrors length acting as a lever on its mounting surface.
